(A Gatineau bus driver who was caught filling out paperwork while driving an STO bus will not be fired. A passenger caught the distracted bus driver on camera as he drove along Tache Boulevard in Gatineau last month. He can be seen clearly filling out forms. At one point, the driver uses his knees to help steer the bus. The video, which was posted on YouTube, has received nearly 130,000 views.Transit officials in Gatineau say the bus driver has been disciplined, but they wouldn't specify what that disciplinary measure was. Officials add that the driver has a good record.)


Kid run over by own school bus in east Delhi (India Times) 

(A four-and-a-half-year-old child was mowed down by his school bus while he was alighting from it in the Geeta Colony area in east Delhi. The incident took place around 1.30pm on Tuesday. According to witnesses, the child, identified as Japneet Singh, lost his balance while getting off the bus and his tiffin box fell off. He was bending down to pick it up when the bus ran over him. Realizing what had happened, the driver tried to flee the spot and in the process ran both the front and rear wheels over the child.)

(A bus tour of national groups opposed to abortion and same-sex marriage kicked off Tuesday morning in Des Moines before a large a media contingent but few of the “values voters” whom organizers are hoping to reach. (A deaf man has accused a nudist park in upstate New York of violating federal law by refusing to provide him with a sign-language interpreter at an annual festival. Tom Willard, 53, of Rochester, filed a complaint with the U.S. Justice Department claiming Empire Haven Nudist Park violated the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by refusing his requests for an interpreter.)

Man Survives 5-Story Fall, Impalement (KSAT) 

(A 33-year-old man was hospitalized Tuesday morning after police said he fell five stories from a downtown apartment building and was impaled by an iron fence. Police said Julian Mattes fell out of a window at the Maverick Apartments at around 1 a.m. and crashed onto the fence. Two of the posts speared the front and back of his neck, police said.)

9-year-old Va. boy gets wallet and money back after handwritten letter posted at store (Washington Post) 

(9-year-old boy who left his wallet containing hundreds of dollars at a Virginia convenience store got it back after he posted a handwritten letter. The boy, identified only as Charlie, says he left the wallet on the counter while he was getting a drink. The boy’s letter which contained his photo was posted on the store’s front door. It said the wallet contained more than $300 the boy had saved, along with gift cards he got for his birthday.)


US woman Diana Nyad abandons swim from Cuba to Florida (BBC) 

(US swimmer Diana Nyad has been forced to abandon her attempt to be the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida without the protection of a shark cage. Ms Nyad, 61, stopped 29 hours into an expected 60-hour swim, CNN reported. "I am not sad, It was absolutely the right call," she told CNN, which had a producer on a boat accompanying her on the 103 mile (166km) swim.)

Alien Outposts Discovered In Antarctica? (Live Science)

(VAn information technology professional has pleaded guilty to copyright infringement and possessing proceeds of crime after twice selling “unlocked” video game consoles to undercover RCMP investigators. Thousands of illegally copied video games were seized from the Boychuk Drive residence of Terry T. Heilman, 36, during a search last Oct. 7. (After killing six people, Michael Hance tracked his last victim to the basement of a house on Schocalog Road, where he shot an 11-year-old boy in the head -- as a younger boy stood nearby. Hance on Sunday killed Scott Dieter, who was hiding in the darkened basement with a 9-year-old boy, according to a Summit County sheriff's official and published reports. Moments later, Hance bolted out of the house and was shot to death by a Copley Township police officer.)

(The unrest seen in London continued to spread to the rest of England last night, as a police station in Nottingham was firebombed by youths. There were "copycat attacks" across the Midlands, where police made scores of arrests on a night of violence. Canning Circus Police Station in Nottingham was attacked by a group of 30-40 youths but no injuries were reported, Nottinghamshire Police said.)
